The saturated purple 2007 Geol is a blend of 41% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Garnacha, Marselan, and Cabernet Franc aged for 10 months in French oak. It offers up a brooding, muted nose of cedar, black currant, licorice, and pencil lead. Straightforward on the palate, this structured effort has tasty black fruit flavors leading to a slightly compact finish. It remains to be seen whether additional bottle age will round it out.

Vintage 2006: Inky ruby. Seductively perfumed, exotic bouquet of cherry liqueur, cassis, plum and oak spices. Fresh, finely etched red and dark berry flavors gain sweetness and weight with air, picking up vanilla and cinnamon qualities. Finishes clean and brisk, with repeating red berry notes. You could easily drink this now.
