Vintage 2007: Espresso and mocha notes frame a core of morello cherry and blackberry in this velvety, modern red, which is supple, yet has lively acidity and a gentle grip of tannins. Leans towards sweet, yet stays fresh. Drink now through 2014.

Vintage 2006: The old-vine cuvee, the 2006 Las Rocas Vinyas Viejas, was recently reviewed in the Value issue but is worth reprinting because the 2007 has yet to be released. Aged entirely in French and American oak, it is purple-colored with a cedary, spicy, cherry and cranberry bouquet. More structured than the "regular" bottling, it has layered fruit, savory flavors, excellent depth, and a fruit-filled finish. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.

Jahrgang 2006: 100% garnacha, from vines reportedly over 100 years of age) Glass-staining ruby. Powerfully aromatic, sexy bouquet of black raspberry, Asian spices and smoky minerals. Plaint red and dark berry flavors are energized by juicy acidity and framed by supple tannins. Spicy notes build with air and carry through the long, silky finish. This is showing extremely well today. As usual, an amazing value.
